SEPTEMBER UNITS

September 4-6    This is the week we will be working on the letter M and the sound for m.  Our unit will be “All About Me”. This is a fun unit because I will let them start sharing something from home this week.  Each day they can bring one small thing from home they would like to tell their friends about.  We will begin learning about graphing in math.  This is so much fun because we use m&m’s!  Don’t you wish when you were in school it had been this much fun!

September 10-14     We will be working on the letter T and the t sound. Our unit this week is Transportation.  This is the week  we will work on map skills as part of our Georgia curriculum. As you travel let your children see a map and help them look for simple words or numbers on the map.

September 17-21    This is the week we will be working on the letter H and the h sound. We will focus on Community Helpers. If you would like to come in and share your job with our class just put a note in your child’s agenda. We would love to have you!

September 24-28    is our unit on the zoo.  We will focus on the letter Z and the z sound. Have your child look at books with zoo animals and identify parents and babies by name. This is hard for some children. This would be a great time to plan a family trip to the zoo and bring in pictures to share with the class.

Wow, I am so excited you are supportive of the homework!  It sets a great example that education is important to you! It helps establish a wonderful work habit for their future!

TESTING INFO

All kindergarten students were tested the first 2 weeks of school.  You will receive a copy of the results as their progress report. I have talked to most of you about your child’s test.  This is the State of Georgia test called GKAP-R. (Georgia Kindergarten Assessment Program-Revised) You know your child has learned so much since I gave this test. You can check their skills at home as well and see how much they are learning. Your child will be expected to learn the skills on the GKAP-R by May of 2008! A certain score is required for your child to pass kindergarten.   I included a copy of these skills in your packet. It has a hand print on it.
