The End of the War World War II didn't actually end when Germany surrendered. It actually ended when Japan surrendered on August 14, 1945. Japan surrendered after two atomic bombs were dropped, the first on Hiroshima (on August 6th) and the second on Nagasaki (on August 9th). The Emperor (Hirohito) announced the Japanese surrender on August 14th.
