We the People.......
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776 in Philadelphia. That means the document is about three hundred years old! Thomas Jefferson was 33 years old. Fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence, including Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. Fifteen were businessmen, twelve were farmers, one was a minister, and twenty-three were lawyers. The youngest signer was 26, the oldest was Ben Franklin, who was 70. The Declaration of Independence is the most important of all American historical documents.
There are 4 parts that make up the declaration. In the first part of the declaration is the introduction. Why it was needed was written in the second part. The grievances to King George III were listed in part three, and this part is the longest. In the fourth part it says the declaration is approved.
The Declaration of Independence was written because the colonists wanted independence and freedom from the British. The cause: The Americans were a new nation!
