Who's  Who with Animals

      Alyssa S.

I am doing this web page based on a topic from the Georgia performance  standard

S5L1. Students will classify organisms into groups and relate how they determined the groups

with how and why scientists use classification.

a. Demonstrate how animals are sorted into groups (vertebrate and invertebrate) and

how vertebrates are sorted into groups (fish, amphibian, reptile, bird, and mammal).

b. Demonstrate how plants are sorted into groups.

All About Marine Mammals

Marine mammals breathe air. Some of the types of marine mammals include dolphins whales and porpoises. The  dolphins get their air from jumping up and down from the surface of water. Whales have a spout that they breathe out of. Whales get their air from their spout. Porpoises breathe just like dolphins. That's because the porpoise is mainly a type of dolphin. But these are only a few marine mammals click HERE for some different ocean mammals. There are some of these types of mammals that have a very low number. This is because they are endangered. Click to get more info.

Land Mammals

There are two types of land mammals. One of the types are carnivores; that means they eat meat as well as fruits and vegetables. The other type is a vegetarian which means they don't eat meat. An example of a carnivore is a lion. An example of a vegetarian is a deer. Both of these animals are land mammals. A land mammal is a mammal/animal that lives on the land.

Click HERE for some more information on the world's amazing  land mammals. Now you  know what land mammals are.

Endangered Animals and Mammals

I have taught you about endangered animals and  mammals.  Now  I   am going to tell you about  endangered animals.  An endangered animal is an animal with a very low number. Some of these have become extinct. One type of animal that has become extinct are the dinosaurs. There are many types of animals that are endangered; they include the giant panda and the sea turtle.

Underwater Plants

There are lots of plants in the world, but did you know that there are underwater plants? If you don't it's okay because I'm going to tell you about them. Some of them are seaweed and water lilies. You will see seaweed on the beach. Water lilies are the things in books that you see frogs hopping on. Click  HERE if you want more info.

Land Plants

Since now you know about underwater plants, you need to know about land plants. After all you do live on earth. One of the plants that live on earth is called a rose. Plants go through a process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is when plants make food. Plants need water, air and light to live. They get their water from the rain. They get their air from stomata. And they get their light from the sun. Now you know about land plants.
