Surface Features of the Earth
By : Alex M.
Introduction
I created this web page based on the Georgia Performance Standard below.
Earth Science
S5E1. Students will identify surface features of the Earth caused by
constructive and
destructive processes.
a. Identify surface features caused by constructive processes.
Deposition (Deltas, sand dunes, etc.)
Earthquakes
Volcanoes
Faults
b. Identify and find examples of surface features caused by destructive
processes.
Erosion (waterrivers and oceans, wind)
Weathering
Impact of organisms
Earthquake
Volcano
c. Relate the role of technology and human intervention in the control of
constructive
and destructive processes.
Examples include, but are not limited to,
seismological studies,
flood control, (dams, levees, storm drain management, etc.)
beach reclamation (Georgia coastal islands)

Facts about Waterfalls, Rivers and other Facts about Water!

| Rivers' Names | Country | Length in Miles |
| Nile | Egypt | 4,145 |
| Amazon | Brazil | 4,000 |

How are waterfalls formed?
Waterfalls are formed when water flows over hard rock. When the water reaches the soft rock the water starts to wash it away. Over thousands of years the soft rock gets washed away then the river cuts down into the rock. This makes a cliff which the water falls over and forms a waterfall.
The highest waterfall underground is the Ruby falls in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but the highest waterfall above ground is Angel Falls in southeastern Venezuela.

All about Volcanoes

Mauna Loa
This is the largest volcano on the earth. The estimated volume of the volcano is 9,600 cubits miles. It is half of the area of the island. It also started to form nearly one million years ago. The volcano is one of the most active volcano on earth. It has erupted 15 times since 1900. The last time it erupted in 1984 it sent lava with in 4 miles.
What makes volcanoes erupt ?
As magma rises within the Earth, gas bubbles form within the magma. As magma continues to rise, the bubbles get bigger and bigger. When the magma reaches the surface, the bubbles expand rapidly, and an explosive eruption happens. That is what makes a volcano erupt
