       Introduction

The reason I decided to do this topic was because it is interesting and exciting to learn about a different culture. You have a chance to learn something you never knew before. If you do pages like this, other people may learn what you have found out.

Japan's design was supposedly started in 660 B.C. by Emperor Jimmu who was a descendent of the sun goddess. In the Christian era, the country was inhabited by many tribal kingdoms ruled by chiefs. The Yamato Tribe established control over central & west Japan. In the 9th century, the Fujiwara family established a firm control over the imperial court.      

                                                                                                                                               

Civil  warfare was almost repetitive in the 12th century. The Minamoto family defeated the Tiara which made them masters of Japan. Yoritomo got the title of Shogun and established his capital in Kamakura. That's when he set up military dictatorship. For 700 hundred years Japan was ruled by warriors. In 1274 & 1281 the Mongols under Kublai Khan were unsuccessful to invade Japan. In 1338 the Ashikaga took over the Shogunate.They settled in Kyoto afterward. The next 250 years were marked by civil wars. The first contact with European people was in 1542 with a Portuguese sailor. In the 1600's three warriors set up a military control over the whole country and succeeded. Their names were Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, & Ieyasu. In 1592 & 1596 Hideyoshi,  he tried to conquer China. He was unsuccessful. When he died, Ieyasu took over the Shogun. His family were rulers of Japan for 250 years. During WWI Japan was still trying to have military expansion to help with the war, but it was disrupted because of an earthquake which destroyed Tokyo and Yokohama .

Then, in  World War II, Japan fought in the Pacific Ocean and took over a few islands. Japan also fought on the Axis side with Germany and Italy. They were the team that did the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. They used a strategy called island hopping. That is what gave them all the islands in the war. This was the last country to surrender because America used  an atomic bomb. They didn't surrender the 1st time, but when the 2nd one was dropped, Japan had to surrender.
