They Are Coming

   How a Robot Works

A robot is a computer-controlled machine that is programmed to move, manipulate objects, and accomplish work while interacting with its environment. The original design of the robot was the human arm. Joints in a robot's arms are controlled with electric motors.  A robot that is designed to move in an unknown environment needs a lot of controls and sensors.

Uses for Robots

There are about 700,000 working robots in the world. Most are used in Japan. General Motors use about 16,000 robots every day for painting and fixing cars.  Robots  also  are used to find sunken ships, going on space missions, and cleaning up nuclear waste.  Robots are also starting to get designed for helping surgeons.

Types of Robots

There are a lot of types of robots. Some go under water, go into space, and some even help around the house. There's also industrial robots like the Panasonic, Motoman, Nachi, and the Fanuc.  Industrial robots are used to weld, and make parts for stuff like cars, buildings, and even other robots.

ASIMO

It took Honda more than 17 years of research to make Asimo. Honda started to make robots in 1986. The first robot they built was the E0. They tried to master walking with a robot and this was their first test subject. The second robot they made was the E1. They made this one because it took too long for the E0 to take one step. Unfortunately it also failed. They finally perfected walking with the E6 and then they started to get them to walking faster, walking back and forward, and climbing stairs. Finally they came up with the P3 which almost perfected everything they wanted. In 1997 Asimo was made and it did everything perfect. It was the most advanced robot ever made. In the future they hope that Asimo would help get eyes, ears, and legs to people who need them.

  ROBOSAURUS

Robosaurus Pics

The original drawings of Robosaurus were drawn by Larry Wood in January 1988. It is 48 feet tall and can reach up to 57 feet high. It weighs 58,000 pounds and has 20,000 pounds of jaw pressure. Also it has 24,000 pounds of claw crushing force. Robosaurus is the biggest transformer in the world because it turns into a semi truck trailer for travel. The body of Robosaurus was designed as braced trusses. Later they put on the covering. Robosaurus is controlled by Frank Yaeple who sits in the cranium of Robosaurus with his instructor Bob Correll. The pilot's arms are placed in a cuff restraints system so if the pilot moves his arm Robosaurus arm moves in the same way. All of the pilot's fingers are very busy giving up and down commands to make the claws move. The legs of the pilots push down pedals to make Robosaurus go, stop, and steer. Robosaurus is very popular and has lots of shows across the United States and I bet in the future it'll be just as popular.

Conclusion

There are a lot of functional robots in the world and I bet there will be a lot more to come. Some that will be used to go to outer space and explore planets that had never been explored before. Some will probably go under water and explore and discover new things. There just might some living next door, but one thing's for sure the technologies of the robot will change for ever.
