STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) |
Jacob Shepherd, a senior at Newnan High School, has selected Angie Markham of Smokey Road Middle School as the teacher that he feels has impacted or influenced him in his school career. Mrs. Markham, who taught English at Newnan High School from 2000-2006, taught Jacob AP English Language and Composition, a year-long course that placed an emphasis on rhetorical writing and analysis of primarily nonfiction works, during his junior year at Newnan High. She remembers Jacob as being an outgoing and well-rounded student who truly enjoys the process of learning and who understands and appreciates the importance of education in his life. The Newnan Rotary Club is sponsoring this year's honoree luncheon on March 2, 2007 . An excerpt from the Newnan Times-Herald: The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program focuses public attention on Georgia's outstanding students and the teachers they choose as being most instrumental in their academic development. STAR students are those seniors -- at each high school in the county -- who score the highest in one sitting on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), and who are also in the top 10 percent of their class. The SAT score then determines the top student county wide, and later the district STAR student. "Coweta STARS: Newnan High's Glenn named county's winner." Newnan Times-Herald 28 February 2001 |
