2006 Excellence in Recycling Award Winner

Smokey Road Middle School is proud to be one of 10 schools state-wide to receive the 2006 Excellence in Recycling Award and $1,500.00 grant sponsored by the Weyerhauser Company Foundation .

Smokey Road will start a school recycling program with the grant. Science classes on each grade level will be responsible for collecting materials from classrooms and common areas. The program will be run with support from science teachers and staff. Weekly Earth Wise morning announcement updates, a school-wide kickoff assembly, and an Earth Day poster contest will keep students and faculty motivated and informed about the program and the importance of recycling. Smokey Road will purchase equipment and bins, as well as printing brochures and purchasing teaching materials with the grant. The SRMS PTA has committed to subsidizing costs that exceed the award amount in order to assure a successful start for the program.

Smokey Road would like to thank Laurie Barron, principal, Tifani Secor, science teacher, Leslie Jeter, PTA president, and Matt Lovett, Coweta County Environmental Management Agency for their roles in achieving this goal and making it possible to receive the award.
