Shawn Allen (pictured on far right), sixth grade literature teacher at Smokey Road, receives a $1,500 grant from EMC of Coweta-Fayette. Ms. Allen will use the grant money to create a student-centered classroom, complete with lap desks, video rocker chairs, lamps, nonfiction materials, and colorful rugs. “Overall, the goal is to provide an atmosphere that fosters trust between student and teacher, greater social interaction between students, and ownership of the learning process on the part of the students,” says Allen.
