Dr. Valerie Mathura is the principal of Ruth Hill where she once taught first grade.  She was born in Griffin, attended Forest Park High and is a graduate of Lee University and the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Mathura married her best friend (Allan) and they have two daughters (Jennifer and Kimberly) and a furry, white toy poodle they call Prissy. Her two sons-in-love are J.C. and Edward. Mrs. Mathura enjoys playing the piano, reading, spending time with her husband, loving on Prissy and studying educational trends. Her favorite quote is “In times of change, learners will inherit the world, while the knowers remain well-prepared for a world that no longer exists.” Mrs. Mathura was inspired to teach by all the memories of school and teachers

she had growing up. She loves learning and watching others learn, believes education is her mission in life, and that working in the school system allows her to fulfill her purpose. Mrs. Mathura has been Teacher of the Year at Elm Street,  Ruth Hill, and Jefferson Parkway elementary schools. She is a former Coweta County Teacher of the Year, and State of Georgia Finalist for Teacher of the Year. She completed a Ph. D. program in Professional Studies with Capella University in August, 2008.

Dr. Lucia Woods is the school counselor. She was born in Kentucky and attended Auburn University, Georgia Southern University and University of West Georgia. She has been married for 25 years to Doug Woods. Mrs. Woods has three children and enjoys reading, shopping, watching her favorite TV shows and dining with friends. Her favorite quote is “Don’t shake hands with the devil ‘til you meet him on the street.” She views the school as one of the primary institutions that provides a foundation for the future of our county and world by educating our children, and wanted to be a part of this process.

Ms. Kathy Hinesley is the school’s bookkeeper. She was born in Newnan and attended Newnan High. Mrs. Hinesley has four daughters, a grandson and a granddaughter. She enjoys scrap booking and reading, and loves her work and the contact she has with students.

Kimberlee M. Ogletree is our school clerk, coming to us from a secretary position at Lee Middle School. She has lived in Newnan all of her life, graduating from Newnan High School in 1997. She currently attends Western Governors University, pursuing a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. She is married and has three wonderful children: Jasmyn, Reginald, and Le’ah. She also has a niece and nephew whom she loves as her own: Indya and Justin. A favorite hobby is singing. She loves Christmas and her favorite color is purple.

Mrs. Patty Morris is the school nurse. She was born in Miami, attended high school there, and graduated from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. Mrs. Morris has three children. Her favorite quote is “For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”

 Mrs. Diana Ferrante is a kindergarten teacher. She was born in Troy, Alabama and grew up in Albany, Georgia, where she attended high school with Paula Deen. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, the University of West Georgia, and Lesley University. Mrs. Ferrante has four sons and a granddaughter, and enjoys gardening and reading. Her favorite quote is “One of the best gifts you can give your child is to read to them.” Mrs. Ferrante became a teacher because she felt she was born to teach.

Mrs. Lee Ann Kitchens is a kindergarten teacher and the grade level chair for her team. She was born in Newnan and attended LaGrange College. Mrs. Kitchens has two children and enjoys reading and trivia.

Mrs. Cheryl Richardson is a kindergarten teacher. She was born in Ohio and received her teaching degree from the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Richardson has three children and enjoys reading and gardening. She represented our school as Ruth Hill's 2008 Teacher of the Year, a prestigious honor being selected by her peers. She presently serves as the Grade Level Chair for her Kindergarten Team.

 Ms. Linda Bohannon is a teacher of ELP (Extraordinary Little People). She also teaches first grade. She was born in Newnan and graduated from Newnan High and the University of West Georgia. Ms. Bohannon is an aunt many times over and enjoys word search, reading and television. Her favorite quote is “I can do all things through Christ.” She was inspired to teach by her first grade teacher, Mrs. Zelda Rice Griffin. Ms. Bohannon was Carrollton Teacher of the Year in 1987, and Ruth Hill Teacher of the Year in 2000. She is also a board member of the Teachers Retirement System.

Mrs. Kim Crawford is a first grade teacher. She graduated from Newnan High and The University of West Georgia. She has a son and enjoys singing, playing volleyball and collecting snowmen. Her favorite quote is “To teach is to touch a life forever.” She was inspired to teach by her love of children. Mrs. Crawford was Ruth Hill Teacher of the Year in 1993 and 2006.

Mrs. Sue Deyo is a first grade teacher. She grew up in Pelham, Georgia and graduated from Asbury College in Kentucky where she met her husband. She has a married daughter and three grandsons, and enjoys gardening, home decorating, the piano, and art. Her favorite quote is “And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.” She was inspired to teach by several teachers she had in elementary and high school. Mrs. Deyo spent twenty five years teaching in Canada before coming to Ruth Hill.

Ms. Marlie Jennings is a second grade teacher. She has lived in Newnan all of her life. She graduated from Newnan High School in 2004 and began attending the University of West Georgia in the fall of 2004. She will complete her degree in May of 2009. She enjoys reading and walking. Her inspiration for teaching came from her second grade teacher, Mr. Steve Clark, who taught here at Ruth Hill. He made teaching fun, which is what she hopes to do.

Mrs. Debbie Smith is a second grade teacher. She was born in North Carolina where she graduated from high school at age sixteen. She has attended Francis Marion College, Charleston Southern University and the University of West Georgia. Besides education, Mrs. Smith has degrees in cosmetology and real estate. She has four children and two of her daughters are also elementary school teachers.  Mrs. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, walking, reading, and quiet time with God. Her favorite quote is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Mrs. Smith was motivated to become a teacher by some of the ineffective teachers she experienced as a child.

Mrs. Janice Smith is a second grade teacher. She was born in Tennessee and attended East Tennessee University and the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Smith has two children and enjoys walking, reading and cooking. Her favorite quote is “The more you read, the better reader you become. The better reader you are the smarter you are.” Mrs. Smith was inspired to teach after studying John Dewey’s theory about children having to actually do things in order to grasp concepts and deciding to put this theory into practice. She grew up in a time when little hands on activities took place in schools and she wanted to give students this opportunity. Mrs. Smith was the 2004 Coweta County Teacher of the Year, is a Reading Renaissance Model and Master Teacher, and received a Disney Teacher of the Year nomination.

Mrs. Sharon Couch is a second grade teacher. She was born in Detroit, Michigan but moved to Georgia as a teenager. Mrs. Couch attended Temple High School in Carroll County and is a graduate of the University of West Georgia. She has one son and two grandchildren. In addition to her role as a grandmother she enjoys sculpting and reading. Her favorite quote is, “Patience is mine!” Mrs. Couch believes she is a natural facilitator and credits her loving family with molding her into a nurturing soul. One of her biggest accomplishments was not giving up on her dream of becoming a teacher (at age 40!)

Mrs. Leslie Hynson is a third grade teacher. Born in Florida, she attended Wewahitchka High School and is a graduate of the University of Maryland and the University of West Georgia. She has two daughters and a granddaughter, and enjoys reading and cooking. Her husband is also an elementary school teacher. Mrs. Hynson’s favorite quote is, “Do not be afraid…I am your shield, your very great reward.” Intrigued by the education process, teaching is the only job she ever wanted.

Mrs. Collette Peaks is a third grade teacher. She was born in Durham, North Carolina and is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Raleigh. Mrs. Peaks has two children and enjoys reading. She was inspired to teach by the tremendous effect her fifth grade teacher had on her. In 2007, she was named Ruth Hill Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Kim Fowler serves as a fourth grade teacher. She comes to Ruth Hill Elementary School after several years of experience at a Carrollton County school. She lives in Newnan with her husband and one year old daughter. She graduated from Starr’s Mill High School and the University of West Georgia. She has added strength to her fourth grade team as she took on meeting and organizing responsibilities before her contract date.

Mr. Robin Merriman is a fourth grade teacher. He was born in California and earned a teaching degree from California State University (Fresno). He also has a degree in Sports Nutrition from Georgia State University. Mr. Merriman has two daughters and enjoys tennis, hiking, triathlons, and playing the guitar. His favorite quote is “Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.” He became a teacher to pass on knowledge, skills and the stimulation of a never-ending challenge. Mr. Merriman spent eighteen days in Japan as a Fulbright Memorial Fund Recipient in 2006. He has completed eight marathons (including Boston) and is a member of the Lutheran praise band, Graceflock.

Mrs. Cora Reeves is a fourth grade teacher. She was born in Newnan, attended Central High and the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Reeves has five grandchildren and enjoys reading and crafts. She has always loved teaching and the difference it can make in a child’s life.

Mrs. Mary Allen is a fifth grade teacher. She was born in Natchez, Mississippi and attended Alcorn State University and Mississippi State University. Mrs. Allen has two children and two grandchildren, and enjoys reading and needle point. Her favorite quote is, “It doesn’t matter how many times you fall down. What matters is how many times you get up.” Mrs. Allen credits one very special teacher, who made her feel that she was special, with inspiring her to become a teacher. She desires to inspire others to achieve success by obtaining their goals in life.

Mrs. Elnora Battle is a fifth grade teacher. She was born in Alabama, attended high school in Michigan and college in Minnesota. She has four grown children and enjoys collecting coins, reading and traveling. Her favorite quote is, “The mind is a terrible thing to waste.” She was inspired to become a teacher by her fifth grade teacher.

Mrs. Angela Brown is an Instructional Coach for Ruth Hill students. She was born in Warm Springs, Georgia, was valedictorian of her graduating class at Greenville High, and is a graduate of the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Brown has three children, two of whom attend Ruth Hill, and her husband serves as an AP at SRMS. In addition to playing with her children, she enjoys gardening or relaxing with a good book. Her favorite quote is, “Actions speak louder than words so always lead by example.” Mrs. Brown was inspired to teach by the success she had teaching her dolls at age five. Her mother also told her that she was born to teach. She has been an intern for former Governor Zell Miller as well as former Senator Sam Nunn.
Mrs. Brown was also a National Student Teacher nominee in 1996, a Leona Ingram Scholarship Recipient in 1998, and Ruth Hill’s Teacher of the Year in 1999 and 2008. She is presently serving as Coweta County's Teacher of the Year for 2009. We are proud to have her at Ruth Hill Elementary!

Mrs. Meredith Clark is a third grade teacher. She was born in Newnan, graduated from Newnan High and earned degrees from LaGrange College and Troy University. Mrs. Clark has a daughter, one son, and two step sons. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, walking, house projects, and watching game shows.. Her favorite quote is “God doesn’t require us to succeed; he only requires that you try!” Mrs. Clark always knew she wanted to work with children and feels teaching is something she can give back to the world. She is a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gibson has two sons and enjoys gardening, decorating, and perusing yard sales. Mrs. Ruth Cooper is the computer lab teacher. She was born in LaFayette, Alabama and attended the University of West Georgia. Mrs. Cooper has two daughters and enjoys traveling and reading. Her favorite quote is “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” She realized at an early age that she wanted to teach and can’t imagine a more rewarding profession. Mrs. Cooper is a former Ruth Hill Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Millie Garza is an assistant in the media center. She was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Columbus, Georgia. Mrs. Garza has three children and in addition to her family, enjoys painting, gardening, cooking, sewing and reading. An avid baker, Mrs. Garza has baked over 100 wedding cakes and provided numerous spectacular cakes for staff birthdays and showers. Fluent in Spanish, Mrs. Garza is frequently called upon to interpret for our Hispanic families.  Her favorite quote is “Be nice.”  She was inspired to work with children by a wonderful childhood and her belief that guiding and caring for children is the most important thing a person can do. She is a former Catholic Woman of the Year.

Mr. Joe Traylor is the media specialist. He was born in LaGrange, Georgia and attended LaGrange High. He graduated from Young Harris College, LaGrange College, The University of North Georgia and The University of West Georgia. Mr. Traylor has two children and enjoys reading, messing about in boats, and Starbucks coffee. His wife is also an elementary school teacher. Mr. Traylor’s favorite quote is, “It’s nice to be important, but more important to be nice.” He chose education as a career because he enjoys interacting with children.

Mr. Jim Andrews is a special education teacher. He was born in Atlanta and attended the University of West Georgia. Mr. Andrews has one daughter and enjoys college football, golf, skiing and travel. Mrs. Anne Bond is one of the school’s EIP teachers.  She is a native Atlantan and grew up in the Little Five Points area.  She graduated from The University of Georgia with a B.S. in Elementary Education and has a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Georgia State University.  She and her husband Andy met at The University of Georgia and have been married 40 years.  They have two daughters, a son-in-law and a granddaughter who was born in May of 2008.  Mrs. Bond enjoys music, baking and traveling, and has lived in Taiwan and Morocco.  She was inspired to teach by an aunt who was a wonderful teacher and who in the late 1920’s pioneered the way for married women to be allowed to teach in the counties in North Georgia.

Mrs. Alice Johnston  serves as an EIP Teacher for Reading and Math support. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but has lived in Moreland for 21 years. She graduated from Marion Abramson High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her bachelor’s degree was from the University of Houston (Houston, TX) and her master’s degree was from the University of West Georgia. Among her other titles are wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She has seven children and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Johnston enjoys reading, Girl Scouts, swimming, traveling, and training horses. A favorite quote is “Remember, happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.” She is inspired to teach because she needs to make a difference in children’s lives, since they are our future. One of her accomplishments is that she has served as a foster parent for 12 years.

Coach James Brantley, affectionately known as “Radar”, has been the Physical Education Coach for 28 years at Ruth Hill Elementary School. He also serves as an Athletic Trainer for Newnan High School. He was born in Dublin, Georgia, but has lived in Newnan for 28 years. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1975 and from Troy State University in 1981. He is married to a CCSS teacher and celebrates his children, Asher (19) – a sophomore at Valdosta State, and Mason (14) a freshman at Newnan High School. Coach’s hobbies are fishing and yard work. His inspiration for working in education was his sister. His honors are Head Athletic Trainer for GA/FLA All Stars, 1987, Head Athletic Trainer for the South All Stars in 1999, and Georgia High Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2006.

Ms. Tiffany White is the music teacher. She was born in Newnan, attended Newnan High and the University of West Georgia. She was a 1997 Wadsworth Scholarship recipient, 1997 Kiwanis Award recipient, and received a Who’s Who Award in 2007. She enjoys reading, watching Lifetime and playing volleyball. Her favorite quote is “It’s up to me to become what I can be.” Ms. White was inspired to teach because she loves to watch people learn and grow.

Mrs. Heather Corley is the school’s art teacher. She was born in Dekalb, Georgia and attended Newnan High. A certified art teacher, Mrs. Corley graduated from The University of West Georgia. Mrs. Corley has a son and enjoys painting, cooking, gardening, scrap booking, photography and tennis. She was inspired to teach by her love for art and a desire to teach others to love it as well.

Mrs. Betsy Dunlap is a special education teacher. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut, has two children, and enjoys whitewater rafting, tennis, reading and watching movies. Her favorite quote is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Mrs. Dunlap was inspired to teach after helping teach her sister, who is profoundly deaf.

Mrs. Grace LeRoy is one of the school’s EIP teachers. She was born in Texas, has a step daughter and granddaughter, and enjoys horseback riding, four wheeling, walking and needle point. Her favorite quote is “Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.” She was inspired to teach by her precious mother.  Mrs. LeRoy taught modern dance to fifth and sixth grade girls and has been nominated for National Science Teacher on the Year on two occasions.

Mrs. Roberts has one son and enjoys working out, practicing her Spanish and reading. Her favorite quote is “The measure of life is not its duration, but its donation.” She decided to become a teacher because children make her smile and she loves to be a part of their learning.

Mr. Matthew Bailey is the school’s permanent sub. He was born in Coweta County and attended Newnan High and Morris Brown College. Mr. Bailey enjoys acting, singing, playing the piano and teaching Bible study. He is a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia professional music fraternity. His favorite quote is “To find your hero, just look inside of you.” He was inspired to work in a school setting by all the great teachers he had growing up.

Mrs. Cynthia Corbett is a parapro. She grew up in Mississippi and has an Associate of Applied Science degree. Mrs. Corbett has three children, all of whom attend Ruth Hill. She enjoys reading and decorating. Her favorite quote is “Do unto others as you would want God to do to you.” She was inspired to work in education by the success of her own children in school.

Mrs. Marie Little is a Special Ed. parapro. She was born in LaFayette, Alabama. Her favorite color is blue and her favorite holiday is Christmas. The quote she loves is, “Be careful what you say. You can never take it back once you’ve said it.” Her inspiration for working in education comes from her love for children. She loves that look when a child says, “Oh yeah, I get it now!” Her greatest accomplishment is her daughter and her grandson. Another accomplishment was to design, build, and own Little Love’s childcare center for 10 years. She believes that compassion is the greatest thing we can have for each other.

Mrs. Rhonda Lowery is a special education parapro. She was born in Newnan and attended Newnan High. She has two children and enjoys spending time with her family, sewing, painting, decorating, reading and watching a good movie. Her favorite quote is “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” She decided to work in education with the hope of touching a child’s life and making a difference.

Mrs. Rosa Pritchett is a kindergarten parapro. She was born in Coweta County and attended Western High School. She has a daughter and three grandchildren, and enjoys cooking, sewing and drawing. Mrs. Phillene Robinson is a special education parapro. She was born In LaGrange, Georgia and attended high school in Nebraska, and graduated from the Newnan School of Radiological Technology. Mrs. Robinson has a son and enjoys reading and going to Starbucks. Her favorite quote is “Friendship is not something you learn in school but, if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you haven’t learned anything at all.” Watching a child grasp a new concept is what has motivated her to work in education.

Mrs. Susan Shaner is a special education teacher. She was born in Boston and is currently pursuing a teaching degree from LaGrange College.  Mrs. Shaner has two sons and two grandchildren. She enjoys reading and her favorite quote is “Be careful what you say, because once you say it you can never take it back.” She was encouraged to become a teacher by her mother. Mrs. Shaner has organized the Newnan Coweta Freedom Walk and has been named Catholic Woman of the Year.

Ms. Tabatha Rossi-Espagnet serves as our REACH Teacher, while also supporting at-risk students through the GRASP program. She was born in Chamblee, Georgia, having moved to the Newnan area after securing a teaching position. She graduated from Chamblee High School and the University of West Georgia for both her bachelor’s and master’s programs. She married in December, 2008. She loves reading, walking, and playing with her puppy. Her inspiration for becoming a teacher started with her sister. She was never allowed to be the teacher when she and her sister played school as children. However, her second grade teacher is a wonderful person and role model who still inspires what she does on a daily basis!

 

 
 
 
Mrs. Julie Aldridge serves Ruth Hill as our Speech Pathologist. She was born in Atlanta and has lived in Newnan for 10 years. Her educational background includes degrees from Griffin High School, Berry College (BS), and Georgia State (M.Ed). Mrs. Aldridge is a wife and mother to one son and one daugther. Her hobbies are reading and family time. Christmas and Easter are her favorite holidays and pink is her favorite color. She enjoys helping others and being an active part of a school community. She was honored with the title "Speech Clinician of the Year, 2000". Here favorite quote is "Dance like no one is watching.
