Mrs. Buckland |
Welcome to kindergarten! My name is Terri Buckland and I am pleased to be your child’s teacher this year! Let me share a little bit about myself so that you will know who you are entrusting your precious little one to each day. I have taught kindergarten and first grade for the last 18 years. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Southern Indiana (with an endorsement in English and Language Arts). My masters degree is from the State University of West Georgia. I was named the Teacher of the Year in both Coweta and Meriwether Counties. I have also been the teacher of the year for the following schools: Poplar Road, Ruth Hill and Unity Elementary. On a personal note, I have a wonderful husband, Doug and an awesome teenager named Katie. Along with our two furry friends, Ed and Diesel, we stay VERY busy! My hobbies include reading, traveling, shopping and hanging out with friends. My true passion (if you have not already guessed) is TEACHING! Watching a five year old blossom and grow in our kinder “garden” of friends is precisely the reason why I teach! I look forward to a great year!

Mrs. Ladd |
My name is Melissa Ladd and this is my sixth year at Poplar Road Elementary. Teaching is my passion. I graduated Magna cum Laude, from Georgia State University with B.S in Early Childhood Education. I went on to receive my Master’s degree in Reading Instruction from Nova Southeastern University. I take academics very seriously both for my students and myself. I have been accepted to begin my Specialist degree at West Georgia in the spring. I love to learn and create exciting learning experiences. I want to instill the same drive and work ethic into my students. I married my high school sweetheart, Jeff Ladd. We have two wonderful children, Emily who is 3 and Carson who is 9 months. We enjoy going to the park, riding horses, playing tennis and going to Jelly Jumping Beans. We also have a Standard Poodle named Madison. Between work and family I stay busy; however my door is always open for parents or guardians. Please know I LOVE my job and I am here to teach!! Please feel confident that everything I do is for the betterment of your child. When they are at school they are loved, however held to a high standard. Kindergarten is the foundation of all education and I want to build my foundation on solid, research based educational practices.

My children went to Poplar the first year it opened and I was involved with P.T.O. and had the opportunity to be a part of Poplar for several years before I had the privilege to come on staff. My husband John and I have two grown children, Jeremiah, he attends Columbus State University studying theatre and Abigail, she is a student at East Coweta High School and has plans to attend University of Georgia. I am married to the love of my life, John and we have been married for 25 years.

Mrs. Desch |
It is wonderful to be working with such a great team. All of the Kindergarten teachers work hard and I benefit from their many years of experience. Now, to share a little about me. This is my fifth year at Poplar Road. I taught for four years in third grade, and certainly appreciated being on that team but missed working with “little ones.” I taught preschool for four years, in private schools, and wanted to return to teaching younger children. I was named Poplar Road’s 2007 Teacher of the Year. I have married for 28 years to my wonderful husband Bill and we are the parents of a son and a daughter. Our son is married and we became grandparents in June. Now I know why they call grandchildren “grand!” I enjoy reading and spending time with family and friends.

My name is Janey Allen, and I received my Bachelors degree from Ga. Southern and my Masters Degree from the University of North Florida. I have a wonderful husband, Bill, whom I have been married to for 30 years. We have four children, two girls and two boys. One is a teacher, one is in college and I have twins that are high school seniors. I am certified in and have taught Special Education and Early Childhood classes for many years. I work with teenagers at our church, and they have worked on a lot of projects with me for children in our Poplar Road community. I guess by now it is apparent that I love children of all ages!! I have been blessed with wonderful and supportive staff and thanks to them have been fortunate enough to be Teacher of the Year three times, twice at Poplar Rd. I love working with my students and their families and believe one cannot work without the other. |
