Biography

 

 

Master Sergeant Jim Armstrong

Master Sergeant Jim Armstrong has been the Air Force JROTC Aerospace Science Instructor at Warren East High School, Unit Ky-961, in Bowing Green, Kentucky, since 1996.  MSgt Armstrong retired from the Air Force in 1991 after completing 20 years of active duty.  During his career, he was assigned to the Security Police and Professional Military Education career fields. 

 MSgt Armstrong was born in Wauna, Oregon, and is a 1968 graduate of Clatskanie High School.

He received both his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from Troy State University in Montgomery, Alabama.  MSgt Armstrong’s professional military education includes NCO Leadership School, NCO Academy, and the Senior NCO Academy.  Additionally, he has completed the Academic Instructor School and Technical Instructor School. 

 After enlisting in the Air Force in 1971, MSgt Armstrong worked as a Security Specialist at Minot AFB, North Dakota and Keflavik Naval Air Station, Iceland.  In 1978, he was assigned as an instructor to the Security Police Academy at Lackland AFB, Texas.  Upon completion of that tour, MSgt Armstrong became a program administrator at the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell, AFB, Alabama.  He completed his career at the Senior NCO Academy, Gunter AFS, Alabama, where he worked as both a Correspondence Course Division Chief and an Academic Instructor. 

 Upon retirement from the Air Force, MSgt Armstrong was employed as a Human Resource Analyst for Piney Bowes Corporation.  During that time he also worked as a training consultant for Portland, Clackamas, and Lane Community Colleges, conducting Leadership Development Courses for mid-level managers and executives within private companies throughout the state of Oregon.

 MSgt Armstrong is married to the former Judi Engel, from Red Bluff, California.  She is a graduate of Troy State School of Nursing and works as a registered nurse. They have two sons, Jeff and Jason.  Jeff is an attorney and a graduate of Alabama University and Lewis and Clark Law School.  Jason is a land management project manager and a graduate of Faulkner State University.
