Born and raised in Riverdale, Georgia; attended Riverdale High School.

Holds degrees from University of North Alabama and Georgia State University.

Has taught for 22 years, but this is his 14th year at Newnan High School.

Presently teaching all levels of American History.

Also serves as Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Football Coach.

Enjoys sports, woodworking and family.

United States History

Semester Syllabus

 

Textbook: History of a Free Nation:  Bragdon, McCutchen, Ritchie (Glenco Publishing)

 

Course Description: This course is a survey of US History beginning with exploration and Native Americans and continuing through current events.

 

Notebook: A chronoligical notebook is required and will be collected once per nine weeks. It should have dividers for the following sections: notes, quizzes, test, geography, and special projects.

 

Homework Policy: Homework will be accepted on the day it is due or on the first day following an absence. Because each homework assignment is tied to course objectives and test, doing homework will improve your grade.

 

Makeup Work: Students have three days to make up any work missed while absent. Students should turn in any work previously assigned and due while they were absent. If you miss only the day of the test, then you will makeup the test upon returning to class. It is the responsibility of the student to find out any assignment missed and/or turn in any work due. Most tests will be made up during class.

Grading System: We will operate on a total points system. Your grade will be based on a percentage of total possible points.

1. Homework (points will vary)

2. Quizzes based on assigned readings. (50 Points)

3. Major Test (200 Points)

4. Group Activities (points will vary)

5. Nine Weeks Exam (20% of grade)

6. If you are absent from class 2 days or less during the nine weeks, you will have 1 point added to your average.

Syllabus- World History

TEXTBOOK: World History, The Human Experience: The Modern Era

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

1. This course is a survey of World History beginning with Prehistory and tracing the development of civilizations through present day.

2. To learn what mistakes to avoid and what good examples to follow.

3. To bring to life real people and events.

 

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Act like a responsible high school student.

2. Use the manners your parents taught you.

  • Don't be rude.

  • Don't interrupt. This includes anything that disrupts class

  • Don't be late. Consult the handbook for penalties.

    • Don't be absent. To encourage attendance, any student who has no more than two absences in this class will have points added to his/her final average, based on the chart below.   0 Absences: 2 points 1 Absence: 1 point

3. Be prepared for class everyday. Bring a book, paper, pen/pencil, and all assignments completed.

4. WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE.

5. You may eat during class within certain parameters.

 

Grading

You will be expected to take part in daily discussions concerning the lessons and current events. Your final grade will be based on a percentage of total points with the final exam counting 20%.

200-300 Points Each 25-50 Points Each

Written Test (4-6 per nine weeks)/ Written Classwork/homework

Projects (3-5 per nine weeks) /Announced and unannounced quizzes

Geography exercises and quizzes

 

A notebook is required. Your notebook in a very important part of this class, and I expect you to keep it organized and up to date with notes, maps, handouts, pictures, ect… Keeping an organized and efficient notebook is one of the ways to keep up and succeed; it should be kept in chronological order.

 

MAKEUP WORK:

 

Make-up work in your responsibility. Any work missed must be made up within five school days. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and to schedule a make up day. Work can be made up in the mornings from 7:30-8:00. Do not expect me to continually remind you.

This is an advanced class; therefore, you will be required and expected to do advanced thinking and work. You must be willing to read and keep up with classwork/homework in order to get the most from this class. We will be covering the history of the world, which is an enormous undertaking. This class is special because the instructors will be working together in their presentation of material so that the literature of the time will be integrated with the time period. We will also be utilizing technology to help you keep up with this class.
