The History and Social Studies Department at Newnan High School has a long tradition of excellence. Staffed by fourteen dedicated teachers, most with graduate degrees in the field, Newnan High School offers varied and challenging courses to students of all ability levels. In addition to the subjects that all Georgia students must pass, we offer numerous electives to students that would like to pursue more in this field of study. Introduction to Law, Psychology, Sociology, Vietnam War, World War II, History of Women in America and Virtual High School are classes all contained in this department. Several AP classes are offered (U.S. History, European History, Economics) with more to come. Test scores on the Graduation Test (GHGST) and End of Course Tests (EOCT) are excellent, and work is being done to raise them even higher. The department is committed to an aggressive technology initiative as well as interaction with the community and innovative events such as the State Court in Schools and Online Mock Elections have been held. Local community leaders come into the classrooms during Civics Week each October and numerous local Veteran's are hosted for history classes at the end of each term. We are always looking for ways to "bring our subjects to life..."
