Expectations:

  • Be in your seat when the bell rings.
  • Do your best at all times.
  • Respect everyone.

Materials and Books:

  • The Americans: McDougal Littell (school issued)
  • Two-inch or larger three-ring binder (no spiral notebooks)
  • 11 Dividers, homemade or purchased
  • Pens (blue or black ink), pencils, and notebook paper

Make sure to have your supplies by the third day of class. Please see me privately if you are unable to attain any of these materials.

Notebook Organization:

Keep notebooks in chronological order with one section for all materials in each unit. There will be periodic notebook quizzes.

Homework:

You can expect to have homework almost every night.  Even if I do not assign homework, you can study terms, study for a test, work on a project, or reread an assignment.  When I assign homework, hand it in the next day to receive credit unless you have an excused absence. Not completing homework assignments will have a negative effect on your grade.

Attendance and Tardiness:

  • Adhere to NHS attendance policies. Good attendance is mandatory for success in this course.
  • Be on time. To be counted on time, you must be in your seat when the bell begins ringing.  If you are late, sign in. We will adhere to NHS tardy policy and procedures.

Makeup Work:

It is your responsibility to handle arrangements for makeup work.  I will not remind you when you return from an absence.

  • Hand-in makeup work within three days of an excused absence for full credit unless the absence exceeds three days.  If the absence exceeds three days, make arrangements to make up work within a reasonable time frame.
  • Use the following procedure to attain and hand-in makeup work:
  • Copy the minutes for the missed class from the makeup folder located at the top of the blue file cabinet.
  • Take any handouts from the folder labeled the day you missed on the side of the file cabinet.
  • Use the calendar on the wall to schedule a time before or after school to make up your work.  Write your name, the time you will come, and the assignment you missed in the box of the date you intend to come.
  • Place completed makeup work in the black tray on top of the file cabinet.

Late Work:

  • Complete unfinished class work for homework. Homework may not be turned in late.
  • See project and composition rubrics for late penalties.

Grading procedures:

Each assignment will earn a certain number of points. For example, a quiz may be worth 10 to 50 points while a test may be worth 200 points. Keep track of your points. I will send home a grade sheet every other week beginning the second week of school. You are responsible for your grades, and you will sign a form stating that you received a grade sheet and agreeing to show the grade sheet to your parents. If you do not like the grade on your grade sheet, you have until I give you your next grade sheet to make up missing assignments for late credit. You may not make up work from one two week period after grade sheets for the next are out. It is your responsibility to keep track of your grades.  Keep all graded papers, in case of a discrepancy in the grade book.

***The end of course test counts 15% of your final grade.***
