Founded in 1918 as the first High School in Newnan, NHS was a Southern Accredited School by 1919 and has held the distinction ever since. Newnan High School has been a School of Excellence three times. The school has enjoyed a tradition and a reputation of providing an outstanding faculty and curriculum for students as they prepare for college or employment. Newnan has a varied athletic program with impressive regional and state records, and an academic program that affords intellectually gifted graduates advanced placement standing in the nation's colleges and universities.
