Procedures:

Entering the room:

1)     Immediately go to your assigned seat and deposit your belongings.

2)     Sign out a calculator, sharpen your pencil, or get any materials that you will need.

3)     Start on the daily math ASAP.  You will have five minutes after the bell to work on daily math.

Leaving the room:

The bell does not dismiss you, I do!!!

When the bell rings, please stay seated until I dismiss you.  Most days you will be dismissed as soon as it rings.  However, there may be a few days when things run over by a few seconds.

When you are absent:

1)     Please get class notes and come by and see me before school if you have questions

2)     If you are absent you will have three days to schedule a time to make up your work. If you fail to see me after three days, a zero will be recorded. Be responsible for your make up work!!!

If you need to ask a question:

1)     Think about your question first. Is it reasonable?  Has it already been asked?

2)     Raise you hand and wait to be recognized.

3)     Listen while you wait, your question may be answered!

To get my attention during seat work:

1)     Raise your hand and I will come to your desk.

2)     If I can not get there right away, keep working until I can.

When you finish early:

1)     Work on the daily math.

2)     Read a book.

3)     Work on your portfolio.

4)     Do not interrupt others!!

When we work in groups:

You will be asked to form groups from time to time.  Sometimes you may choose your own groups; sometimes you will be put in groups.   You will remain with your group until the activity is over.  You will have different groups throughout the year. You will have two minutes to form your group and decide responsibilities.

Guidelines for group work:

1)     You are responsible for your own job and the results of the group.  (In the working world, you are responsible for your own job and the results of the people you work with.)

2)     If you have a question, ask your support buddies. Do not ask your teacher.  (In the working world, you do not raise your hand for help.  You seek, ask, and research because you are expected to act on your own initiative.)

3)     You must be willing to help if a support buddy asks you for help. (In the working world, you are expected to apply teamwork skills.)

4)     If no one can answer a question, agree on a consensus question and appoint one person to raise a hand for help from the teacher.  (In the working world, negotiating and reaching agreements are the keys to success.)

To turn in a quiz or test:

Staple the pages in order, with your scratch work at the back.  Place the pages on the overhead and return to your seat.

To turn in portfolios or special assignments:

You may turn them in any time of the day between classes.  Do not interrupt class to turn something in.  You may however slide it under the door.
