Teaching
Philosophy: I want to instill in every student that enters my classroom an appreciation for the science of mathematics. Mathematics is a logical, beautiful science. Through studying mathematics, the brain learns methods of thinking logically which is invaluable in today’s world. I am often asked the question, “When am I ever going to use this?” For many of my students, the answer is “You’re not!” But, what all students will use from the math classroom is the ability to be a critical thinker and problem solver. No matter what ability level a student has, I believe that through solid instruction from the teacher and diligent practice by the student; anyone can learn about mathematics at any level. All I need in my class is willing participants and away we go! |

Calculator
Use: In my classes, the use of a graphing calculator is required. Acceptable calculators are the TI-83 or the TI-89. The use of a graphing calculator is required on the AP Calculus exam. Even though the graphing calculators are a very powerful tool, students must understand that the best calculator is the one they were born with, their brain! |
