NEWNAN HIGH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing!

NEWNAN GIVES BACK: Newnan High School is kicking off its first ever community service day on Saturday, 4/27. We plan to give back to businesses and organizations in our community to show our love for them. Some of the programs and organizations we will be working with include Bridging the Gap, Keep Newnan Beautiful, Abby's Angels, VFW, Meals on Wheels, and Newnan PD. This is a great way for students to earn volunteer hours while giving service to others. You must register to be a part of this historic event, and registration packets may be picked up and returned to the Principal's Office, the 9th Grade Office, or club sponsors. Find a way to get involved! Registration ends THIS FRIDAY, 3/22.

ACTIVITIES/CLUBS

Chick-fil-A:  Track & Field team members will be selling CFA biscuits ($4) this Friday morning, 3/22, in the 9th grade car loop and Armory bus zone.

Foreign Language:  This past Saturday, 23 of our foreign language students competed at the state Foreign Language spoken language competition at McEachern High School. 

Receiving first place awards were:
French 4 - Brice Dumas, Melanie Hernandez, Jaxon Jessup; French 3 – Sara Gonzalez, Nicholas Grier, a-De’ja Nelson-Porter; French 1 – Makenzie Barnett; Spanish 3 - Haley Bishop

Receiving 2nd place awards were:
Spanish 5 - Lauren Atland, Gracie McMahon; AP French - Haleigh Green, Haven Helton, Nixon Swafford, Justin Young; French 4 - Angela Ayala; French 3 - Keona Green; Spanish 3 - Brooke DePoi;
Spanish 2 - Krish Patel, Ashley Williams; French 2 - Keriyona Geter; French 1 - Lucas Davis.

And receiving 3rd place awards were: Spanish 1 - Breanna Ledbetter, Jordan Smith.

French Club:  Hosting a special movie showing in French at Regal Cinemas this Saturday, 3/23.  See Madame Quesinberry or Madame Miller to sign up and reserve your spot.  First come, first served.

IC Fees:  Students, please check your Infinite Campus Student Portal for fees that you need to take care of as soon as possible.

National Honor Society:  Any upcoming junior or senior interested in joining the National Honor Society must attend an informative meeting next Thursday, 3/28, at 7:40 a.m. OR 3:30 p.m. in the 9th grade Media Center.  Application packets will only be available at this meeting.  See Mrs. Turner, 1130, or Ms. Vuong, 1059, if you have any questions. end 3/27

Prom:  This year’s NHS Prom for juniors and seniors and their guests will be on 5/4 at Opera Atlanta.  Pick up a Code of Conduct form outside of room 310A or the Principal’s Office which must be turned along with your payment.  Payments may be made to Mrs. Johnston in room 310A before/after school or in between classes.  The fee for all juniors/seniors is currently $60 until the end of this month.  After Spring Break the fee will go up to $70.  The fee for all guests (not an NHS junior or senior) is $55.  The ABSOLUTE LAST DATE TO PAY is 4/26. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE!

Relay for Life/Beta Club:  Our Beta Club is selling t-shirts in support of Relay for Life. Check your school email for an order form which is due to Mrs. Lynch in room 902 on 4/9.

COUNSELING

Dual Enrollment:  If you are interested in Dual Enrollment visit the  Dual Enrollment page of the Counseling website, where you can find more information on the required steps. High school coordinators from West Georgia Technical College will be here on campus to help with the scheduling process on this Thursday, 3/21.

GENERAL

Cafeteria:  To qualify for free/reduced lunch, parents/students must turn in a new form every school year.  You may apply online with the link that is on the NHS web page, (https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/welcome) or you may pick up a form in the Principal’s office.

Parking:  ALL STUDENTS WHO DRIVE TO SCHOOL must have a valid 2018-19 parking pass HANGING FROM THE REAR VIEW MIRROR OF YOUR CAR! Student Parking Passes are sold ($20) year-round in the 100 Office. You may stop by before/after school or during lunch to pick up a Parking Pass Application.

Yearbooks: If you ordered a 2017-2018 yearbook or if you know of any former student who may have ordered , please stop by the principal’s office to pick it up before/after school or during your lunch.  You may order this year’s 2018-2019 yearbook UNTIL May 10 online directly through jostens.org.

SENIORS

Dates/Deadlines:  Questions? Check the senior page of the NHS website, Counseling Department tab.

Cap/Gown Delivery:  If you already ordered a cap and gown, pick yours up next Tuesday, 3/26, during all lunches in the auditorium lobby.  If you haven’t ordered yours yet, there is still time; drop by the Counseling Office.

Senior Panoramic Picture:  Save the Date – April 11 – 8:30 a.m.!  Students should bring cap, gown, and tassel.  More details regarding location will follow.

Wall of Fame:  Don’t forget to stop by the Principal’s office to sign Dr. Puckett’s Wall of Fame if you have a plan for after graduation.  Please show proof of acceptance to college, military, or employment.  We are proud of you!

Yard Signs:  Graduation Yard Signs may be ordered with a form in the Principal’s Office. Order now through 3/29 for $25. After Spring Break the price goes up to $30.  Last date to order is 26 for $30.

Yearbook Recognition Ads: To purchase a “Senior Recognition Ad” check your school email for this web link https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1040676/Newnan-High-School/. Deadline to order is 3/1.

SPORTS
Sports Physical Packets must be completed and turned BEFORE any student may participate in ANY sport activity (tryouts or conditioning). Packets may be obtained in the 100 Athletic Office.

Basketball Banquet: Our end of season basketball dinner and awards banquet will be on Thursday, 3/21 in the 9th grade café from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  All guests, including athletes, must pre-pay $6 for the meal to Coach Ladd or Mrs. Drake in the 9th grade Media Center.  Checks payable to NHS Athletics must be received by Monday, 3/18!  NO PAY AT THE DOOR!

Boys LAX:  Our boys defeated Trinity last night 16-10 with goals scored by Luke Morgan, Jack Johnstone, David Rembert, and Colton Sink.  Avery Johns led the Cougars with 13 saves!

Boys Soccer: Boys Varsity Soccer defeated state ranked Campbell 3-2 to improve their record to 7-1-2 on the year.  Goals scored by Angello Sanon, Justin Sanchez, and the match winner Abel Villaescusa in overtime.  Assists created by Angello Sanon, Caeden Greer, and Colin Swenney.  Excellent defense lead by Rad Wyrick, David Ponce, Alex Scharko, and Nick Grier.
