Zero Carbon Goal for Woodstock, New York
As the ozone is continuing to get worse due to all of the gases and chemicals entering the atmosphere, the United States government is starting to make a dramatic change. In various cities, officials are trying to lessen the affects that dangerous chemicals have on our atmosphere by cutting down on the amount of dangerous gases that enter the air each day.
In Woodstock, New York, officials are pushing for a change in the way the atmosphere is affected by all the smoke and fumes. The plan calls for nearly 6,200 people to install solar panels in their homes as a way to cut down the gases that have caused such a huge problem.
The Woodstock town board is calling for no net emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases by 2017. This policy means residents can keep their cars as long as they produce enough clean power to offset their emissions. The resolution lists ways to reach the zero carbon goal, including green building, bike paths, tree planting, and municipal fleets.
Although this plan seems to be difficult, it is very well possible. Woodstock is a small town. The size helps them in their efforts to cut the greenhouse gases because they are not a major industrial city like many other cities in the United States.
