Mrs. Susan Mullins

Mrs. Mullins has been teaching for twenty-seven years and began teaching in 1974. She did, however, take a break from teaching to be a full-time mother, and she resumed teaching in 1986 once her children entered school. She graduated form Newnan High School. She attended the University of Georgia and obtained her A.B. in Spanish, from the University of West Georgia she got her M. Ed. in Spanish, and from Argosy University she earned her Ed. S. Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Mullins is currently in the process of writing a dissertation for the Ed. D. Degree in Instructional Leadership. He hopes to finish that degree this summer.

Mrs. Mullins has taught Spanish I, II, and IV; Introduction to Teaching I and II; English I; and college courses Spanish 1001 and 1002; Freshman Seminar; and Introduction to Education. Mrs. Mullins also taught Physical Education for girls; they used to have separate classes for boys and girls.

Mrs. Mullins ended up in Newnan because she got a call from the Principal of Central High School (which is now the Central Education Center). She has just graduated from the University of Georgia, and she needed the job. She wanted to teach at Newnan High School because she says she always thought highly of the way Newnan High prepared her for the future. She feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with some of the teachers who taught her. Mrs. Mullins said, "Newnan High prepared me for a lifetime of learning."

Mrs. Mullins is also involved with the Teacher Cadet Program. Mrs. Vivian Dunn was the first instructor of the program. Mrs. Mullins picked it up when one of the assistant principals asked her because course material changed, and Mrs. Dunn needed to teach math full time. The name of the course was changed in 1999 from Teacher Cadets to Introduction to Teaching. The course that Mrs. Mullins teaches at Newnan is a prerequisite for the Teacher Apprenticeship Program at the Central Education Center. She has been teaching the courses for the past nine years and has enjoyed it very much.

Mrs. Mullins is a very busy lady. Not only does she work here at Newnan High, but she also has taught several courses as an adjunct professor at the local campus of Brewton Parker College.

Mrs. Mullins says that her favorite classes in school were Miss Barbara Andrews' junior English class and her Spanish class with Miss Sara Mathews.

Mrs. Mullins added that she met her husband while he was on the coaching staff. He ran her out of the gym one day because he thought she was a student. Later on he found out she was a teacher, and when he went to apologize, he asked her out. They were engaged two months after their first date.
