Superintendent Focus on Safety
Blake Bass, Coweta County's superintendent has expressed a great concern for safety during this last week. Last week, Mr. Bass visited a local Coweta County school and walked in without his ID, which on a normal basis he would have had. Any other teacher who has been in the system a while would have recognized him and allowed him to continue his progress. A new teacher, not knowing Mr. Bass, kindly asked him to return to the front office to check in and receive a visitor's pass. The teacher later figured out this unknown individual wandering the hall was the superintendent. This particular incident made Mr. Bass aware of the safety issue in our schools.
If Mr. Bass had been someone other than the superintendent and if this teacher had not stopped him and just let him walk on through, no one knows what could have happened. That incident could have cost teachers and students their lives. The first step of our superintendent was to address the issue of safety at Thursday's meeting. Academic programs was the topic on the agenda, but Mr. Bass felt the safety issue was of more concern at the moment.
The schools have drills to ensure the safety of the students and staff, but all plans and programs are meant to be tried and tested to become the absolute best they can be. Our superintendent is going to make sure that all students and teachers are safe.
