Obama Running for President
Barack Obama, senator from the state of Illinois, has declared his intention for the presidency in 2008. Obama was elected to the Illinois state senate in 1996 and has been running strong since. In 2004, Obama delivered the keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention where he became a national figure.
On February 10, 2007, Obama formally announced his intention run for the presidency at an event at the Old State Capitol Building, the same building where Abraham Lincoln delivered his "House Divided" speech. According to polls, Obama is currently in second place behind Hilary Clinton in the race for the democratic nomination to run for the presidency of the United States.
Obama has never been afraid to voice his opinion while in office. In 2002, Obama, like most Democrats, spoke out about the Bush campaign and the war in Iraq calling it "ill conceived." Obama has also tried to decrease the cost of healthcare insurance for the forty-five million Americans who do not have medical insurance due to the high cost. Over the years, Barack Obama has been focused on the American people. In 2002, he proposed the first ethics reform bill in twenty-five years.
In the next few months, the American people will get to know Barack Obama a little bit better as he continues his quest to become the next president of the United States of America.
