Coweta County Board of Education Is Working to Void the 1973 Injunction

The 1973 Desegregation Injunction has caused major damage in the school system. The injunction states that all schools should have an equal racial amount.

This legislation effects redistricting more than anything. In 2005, many students were transferred to others schools farther away from their homes to create equal numbers in student populations. Parents would rather their children attend schools closer to home. The school board does not have a choice in the matter, because the redistricting has to comply with the injunction.

The school system has now gained unitary status in which they have previously shown evidence of compliance with the injunction and demonstrated it throughout the county. The next step in the process is already in the works, and parents will be notified by January 19th. Parents will then be able to put their children in schools nearer their homes.
