Gas Prices Drop Under $2

Finally, students and faculty, relief has arrived! On Monday, gas prices finally dropped below the Mendoza line to the magnificent price of $1.99. This price is the lowest since early February. Just one month ago, the average gas price in metro Atlanta was $2.50 per gallon; unfortunately, that wasn't the highest. One year ago gas prices around the metro area reached extreme heights, with the highest price recorded being $3.11. There are many key reasons for gas prices dropping from $2.66 last month to $1.99 this week. Since fighting in the Middle East is calming down, there are easier openings to get to oil fields. A rapid decrease in hurricanes effecting cities dominating the oil industry has also caused a drop in prices. Prices also dropped due to the re-opening of downed pipe lines. Race Trac, BJ's, Quik Trip, Flash Foods, and Shell are just a few gas stations around the Newnan area where gas can be found at $1.99. If the weather and fighting conflicts continue to cooperate, gas prices will continue to drop and U.S. citizens can continue to smile.
