Homecoming Parade

Each year Newnan has a parade downtown to support Homecoming. Newnan High School contributes many of the floats in the parade. There are many float competitions so everyone gets very involved. Each grade, from the freshman class to senior class, makes a float trying to outdo the others. The floats are judged and a winner is announced at half-time during the Homecoming game. This is not the only float competition, however. Many clubs at Newnan High also have floats in the parade. Which ever float wins, the people who helped are rewarded.

There is also a elementary school float competition. Elm Street and Northside competed against each other this year. At the game, Northside was announced the winner.

Every middle school in Newnan has its cheerleaders in the parade. They walk with the floats and do cheers.

Fire trucks and other trucks ride through the parade as well. The girls on Homecoming Court ride through the parade in their evening dresses on the backs of convertibles. Everyone gets to see who Newnan's Homecoming Queen may be.

Newnan has very few parades each year. Homecoming happens to be one of the biggest ones. People always crowd the square to see the many exciting floats. The Homecoming parade is very exciting for Newnan.
