Community Center Opens This Spring

On Tuesday, November 21, the ground breaking for the new Wilbon Clay/Robert Wood Community Center located at Heery and Westside School Roads has begun. This new center is expected to be opened by the time schools get out for the spring. The new center is named after Coweta's first black commissioner, Wilbon Clay, and his successor on the commission, Robert Wood.

This facility will include many things pertaining to the public's needs "wish" lists including basketball and tennis courts. The center will also consist of a community room with a kitchen, a meeting room, and a food pantry.

During a ceremony for the new building, Wilbon Clay's sister Annie Laura Clay and Robert Wood spoke along with architects Joe Gardner and Kip Oldman. King Evans, who is doing construction, also spoke. The center originally started off as the Robert L. Wood Community Center, but Wood thought it would be appropriate to honor Wilbon Clay as well. The building is going to be a beautiful site and a great place to enjoy.
