Touchdown Club Banquet
A lot has happened this season for the Cougar football team. The team's banquet was December 11 for all recognitions and awards. After a welcome by Ray McKnight, Touchdown Club member, Team Chaplain Rhodes Skinner gave the invocation. Mike Sumner and Ray McKnight then recognized special members of the Touchdown Club who were responsible for the organization of the night's festivities and for all the hard work all year long in support of Newnan High School's athletes and coaching staff.
Dr. Barker and Superintendent Blake Bass started out the night of recognitions by handing out Academic Pins for athletes who had maintained a 90 or above average. Fifteen young people were recognized and received pins.
James "Radar" Brantley then gave out trainer awards to Cassie and Claire Ferrell, Asher Brantley, Drew Morris and Walker Sandlin. Asher Brantley received the Student Athletic Trainer Award. "Radar" also gave the Zack Sherrer the Band-Aid Award.
Defensive Coach Bryant gave the Big Play Award and Highest Grade Linebacker Award to Scotty Johnson.
Coach Pearson gave the Highest Grade Secondary Award and Meanest Cougar Award to Shea Hammond.
Braland Geter received the Highest Grade on Defensive Front from Coach Fendley.
Coach Allen gave Prentice Hollins the Take Away Award.
Coach Rush gave the Hammer Award to Shea Hammond and Antwan Herring.
Coach McCall gave Most Hits Award to Alex Plenty. Coach McCall also recognized the Defensive Captains for the 2006 season as Scotty Johnson and Shea Hammond.
Coach Sandlin gave the Kicking Game Award to Josh Stripling.
Coach Morris gave the Air Cougar Award and the 1,000 Yard Club Receiving Award (for 1192 yards) to Quamorris Dixon. Coach Morris also gave the Highest Grade Received Award to Russell Powell. Offensive Captains for the 2006 season Stewart Johnston and Quamorris Dixon were also named.
Coach Rush gave the Race Horse Award and the 1,000 Yard Club Rushing Award (for 1319 yards) to Kendreas Wynn.
Coach Stewart gave the 1,000 Yard Club Passing and the Total Career Yardage Award to Thomas Darrah.
Coach Britt gave the Highest Grade Offensive Lineman Award to Ray Beano. Coach also gave the Spirit Ball Award to Stewart Johnston. Coach Britt was also honored by the O-Line with a plaque to commemorate the year's accomplishments and to express their gratitude for his work.
Coach Morris gave the Gene Tyre Award to Russell Rohman.
Athletic Director Gaston Green gave the Most Inspirational Player Award to Stewart Johnston.
Head Coach Robert Herring gave the Golden Helmet Award to Brady Sumner.
Receiving academic recognition for a 100+ grade point average was Brady Sumner. Also recognized was Jacob Shepherd for being a National Merit Semi-Finalist.
The Touchdown Club presented seniors with "Special" tee-shirts, baseball caps, and their senior jerseys.
It was a great night for all the athletes and their families as well as for the the coaching and administrative staff. Coming together to recognize such an array of positive accomplishments by such wonderful young people is a rewarding way to spend a Monday evening.
