Study Guides
Study groups are beneficial for two reasons: students are able to receive answers tko questions that could not be addressed in class, and students learn teamwork skills.
According to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of York University, "being able to work as a team member is a skill that can only be leaned by doing" Study groups are beneficial in accomplishing tasks such as learning how to problem solve with other group members and teaching self discipline. Students also have the opportunity to learn new study habits from peers.
Study groups are most commonly used to review lecture notes, to discuss anything students do not understand, to discuss key concepts from lecture, work on assignments, to study for tests or exams, and to discuss what questions students expect to be on tests and exams.
Study groups are also easy to start and maintain. The study group has to establish meeting times and then stick to the agreed-upon times. Students can meet together on a weekly or bi-weekly basis or as-needed to discuss topics being addressed in class.
