Cougars Crush Creekside

So much for that upset in the swamp. The Newnan Cougars shutout Creekside 33-0. In last Friday's edition of the AJC, Creekside was picked to upset Newnan. Many times the AJC has doubted the Cougars in big match-ups, but once again the Cougars proved the AJC wrong.

The game started well for the Cougars with the defense stopping Creekside on its first possession and the offense scoring on the ensuing drive. Although Newnan was successful in the air, the game was dominated by rushing. Russell Powell had nine rushes for 51 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Keandreas Wynn tacked on two more on the ground.

The defense posted its second shutout of the season. The Seminoles did not reach the 50 yard-line until the second half. The Cougars got two interceptions, and each set up scoring drives.

The Cougars are now 5-0 and are tied with rival East Coweta for first place in the region. Newnan is off this Friday and resumes play against Riverdale next Friday at Twelve Oaks.
