First Presidential Debate
On friday, September 26th, the first presidential debate of this election was held at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. The outcome of the debate is still undecided. Newspapers across the country struggled to declare a winner between Democratic Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, calling it "tepid gruel" and "a generation clash."
While John Pitney Jr., writing on the National Review Online, thought McCain gave the stronger debate, Joe Klein of the Time Magazine website thinks that "Obama did everything he had to, with few if any mistakes." He also cautions against taking the snap polling too seriously, saying "this was a big event in this campaign - the beginning of the end... the race has not been decided yet."
Some listeners believe that Obama was not able to support his opinions, while others say McCain acted as nothing but a "grumpy old man"
