First Female Beefeater

Beefeaters, or Yeoman Warders, have been guarding the Tower of London since 1485 - 522 years - and Moira Cameron is the first woman to ever have the job.

Cameron has mastered the nightly locking-up ritual but says she is still struggling with the history of the Tower.

After working as an army accountant for 22 years, she loves working with people. "You do the job for prestige, and because you meet people every day," she said. "It's wonderful to meet these people because they so want to be here and are interested in anything you can tell them. And you can have a really good laugh with them as well."

The rest of the beefeaters have said that they like having her on the team. "She's been here for two months and has been accepted by the community," says Keohane, a very typical beefeater.

Cameron is the third woman to apply for the job and the first to get the job.
