Roses and Thorns

It seems like only yesterday the grade report hit my desk like a ton of bricks. My anxiety level skyrocketed, but I knew I wouldn't have to tell my parents. The semester slipped by, and on that fateful day, I received an "F." I knew that if my parents had known my grades, I would have had to work harder. The school system is putting into effect a program where parent will be able to check grades and attendance. If looking at this program in a short term view, it may be a thorn, but in the long run, this change is definitely a rose.

The first month of school is nearly gone, ladies and gentlemen. Let's use common sense when driving, and keep this year safe and accident free. Those students speeding through parking lots, parking too close, making illegal turns on Armory Road--all while gabbing on cell phones--get a personal thorn this week. Please stop; you scare me! Stay safe and keep the insurance premiums low.

Susan Shaner is organizing a local freedom walk. This event is being held to show patriotism and to give thanks to the soldiers who put their lives on the line for our safety. This event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on September 9 at the gazebo in Newnan City Park at Jackson Street and Temple Avenue. With my dad currently serving in the United States Army, this event definitely tugs at my heart strings and gets a weekly rose.

It boggled my mind to hear that Coweta County is considering repealing the ordinance banning guns in county parks. The case is now in the hands of Georgia Court of Appeals thanks to Georgia Carry, a gun rights organization. I like to think I am safe at a park, but when the decision is out in early 2008, that feeling may be gone. I am feeling this thorn along with some anxiety.
