Cougars Come Out on Top of 13 Inning Showdown
Newnan baseball pulled out a 13 inning victory over Mundy's Mill Wednesday, April 30 to give East Coweta the Region Four Championship. The Cougars put up four runs in six innings to the zero of Mundy's Mill. This lead changed when the Tigers scored four in the seventh to tie it. The score stayed the same until the thirteenth inning where the Cougars put up four more runs to win the game with a final of 8-4.
Garret Smith started on the mound for the Cougars and pitched six scoreless innings but loaded the bases in the seventh for relief pitcher Tyler Marchman. Marchman cam out unlucky when a bloop single to right field and a bad hop that could have been a double play cost the Cougars their lead and tied it at four runs a piece. Andrew Ross came in for the final two puts and pitched the rest of the game for the Cougars allowing no runs.
The Cougars' offense had a good day with many hits but not so many runners in scoring position. Clint Clark, Billy Dancy, Alex Hand, and Tyler Marchman all had big bats for the Cougars in their incredible victory over the fifth ranked team in the state, Mundy's Mill.
