Mrs. Benton

Mrs. Amy Benton is a science teacher and this year's Teacher of the Year. When asked about receiving the title "Teacher of the Year," Mrs. Benton replied, "This is the biggest honor I have received in my teaching career. It is truly an honor to be chosen by an amazing group of teachers like we have at Newnan High." She really enjoys teaching and "getting to know her students and ultimately making a difference in their lives." Teaching science gives Mrs. Benton the opportunity to "show how things work and not just tell," which is one reason she became a science teacher.

Mrs. Benton also says "I have the perfect family!" Her husband is the Vice President of ALP Lighting. She has two children, Brooke, who is in fifth grade at Atkinson and Bryce, who is in seventh grade at Smokey Road. "Whatever her kids are playing" is the music Mrs. Benton listens to because she likes all kinds.

In high school, Mrs. Benton really enjoyed sports. She played softball, cheered, and did gymnastics. She still loves sports today. She loves coaching and gymnastics and cheerleading. Her daughter plays soccer and does gymnastics, and her son plays football and baseball.

Mrs. Benton attended Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. If given the opportunity to go back to school and study she would still study education, "She knows this is where God intended her to be."

Lastly, Mrs. Benton would like to tell the readers, "I love Newnan High School! I really enjoy working here, and I hope this is where I will stay until retirement."
