Algae for Biofuels

A facility in Hawaii has been growing marine algae for conversion into biofuel. Algae has vegetable oil and can be cultivated in ponds of seawater, which minimizes the use of fertile land and fresh water. It also has the potential to absorb waste carbon dioxide directly from industrial facilities - like power plants.

Some people believe algae could be better for cars because it can double its own mass several times a day and can produce at least fifteen time more oil than palm, soya, or jatropha.
