Nine-year-old Avoids Jail Over Bee "Abuse"

In Indonesia, a nine-year-old boy was facing three years in jail for stinging a classmate with a bee. David Yusuf was charged with serious abuse in January 2009. Sutriadi Yahya, the judge at Surabaya district court in East Java, came to the conclusion that the school system was taking things too far.

"This case shouldn't have been brought to court. It could have been settled amicably by the school and the parents involved because it's about normal children's naughtiness," said Yahya. Dian Nirmalasari accused Yusuf od capturing a bee and placing it on her cheek, where it stung her. The girl's parents were so infuriated by this action that they reported it to the police.
