Red Cross Text Donations Pass $21 Million

Money for Haiti relief is being given by all sorts of people all over the world, even through text messages. So far, the Red Cross has raised $103 million, and $21 million of the donations came via text messaging. In the first 24 hours after the fundraiser began, there were already $1 million worth of text donations.

Technology sure has played a large role in getting the word to others about the cause. Facebook and Twitter, especially, are great ways to spread the word. Even the iPhone application developers decided to donate a day's proceeds to the fundraiser. Also, the iTunes store has a page dedicated to Red Cross Haiti donations.

The effort to help the devastated and destroyed country is massive, and there is a way each person can become involved as well. Just text the word "Haiti" to 90999 to place a donation.
