Athens Swim Meet
The weekend of January 15th the Newnan High School swim attended the Clarke-Oconee Swim Meet Invitational at the University of Georgia. With over 550 swimmers and 31 teams in attendance, it was sure to be an exciting meet. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the NHS swim team split into two warm up groups led by captains Cole Cash, Joe Crain, Cessily Skinner, and Katie Stewart. From there the two groups went through exercises designed to prepare them for their upcoming races. At each meet, the teams are ranked according to the points scored by the girls, boys, and the team as a whole. Overall Newnan ranked 10th out of 31 schools with the boys coming in 6th overall and the girls in 18th. The boys' "A" relay led the Newnan team with a 3rd place finish and a time of 1:49.81 in the 200 Medley relay and a 4th place finish in the 200 Medley and 12th place in the 400 freestyle relay. Top scoring individuals included Cody Spradlin,, Joe Crain, Zach and Jordan Ponce. Hunter Harrison, Casey Stillwell, and Felicia Wan also earned points for the girls relay. Coach Courtney Stillwell is quoted as saying, "The NHS Swim Team did a great job representing Newnan High School. We had many swimmers achieve their personal best!"
