YLI Mock Election

The results of the YLI Mock Election showed Newnan High School leaning to the Republican side. NHS students chose John McCain for president, Saxby Chambliss for U.S. senator, and Lyn Westmoreland for the House of Representatives. Since most students tend to vote the same way as their parents, this information is a fairly good indication of how parents of NHS students voted in Tuesday's national election.

While NHS voted Republican, the state of Georgia as a whole had a different opinion in the mock election. Statewide, Barack Obama was chosen for president, Jim Martin was chosen for U.S. senator, and Stephen Camp prevailed for the House of Representatives.

The nationwide majority vote in the mock election for the new president went to Barack Obama.

In the actual presidential election, Georgia's electoral votes went to John McCain. However, the results were the same for the mock election and the real election--Barack Obama ended up winning the presidency and becoming the first African American president in the history of the United States.
