Heroes of the Week

Jay Chavez recently returned to her home country of Peru to set up a school for underprivileged Peruvian children. She wanted the students to have a better education and opportunities in life. On a volunteer expedition to Akequipa, Peru, Jay met Luis Chavez (now her husband), and they both volunteered to work in the local orphanage where poverty and malnutrition played key roles in the Peruvian children's lives. After their volunteer work, they were inspired to set up a project of their own and decided to teach the children to speak English.

After a while, the couple raised enough funds to build a classroom for the students. They even got funds to get much needed facilities such as bathrooms. The Chavez's school also provided its students with at least one meal a day.

The locals asked why the couple were doing such good deeds without asking anything in return, and the couple responded by saying that the knowledge they were making a difference in children's lives was enough return.
