Mrs. Amy Headley
This week's featured teacher is Mrs. Amy Headley. Mrs. Headley is in her twelfth year of teaching. This year makes her seventh year teaching at Newnan; she previously taught at East Coweta for one year and Northgate for five years. She has taught all grade levels of English as well as Spanish I and II. She graduated from Converse College where she double majored in English and Spanish and received a minor in Vocal Performance. She then earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Education/English from the University of West Georgia.
Mrs. Headley said when she was younger she always wanted to be a teacher, but as she got older, she frequently changed her mind. She was greatly influenced by her mother, who was an elementary school teacher. Her mother always cared for her students and wanted them to succeed, and Mrs. Headley hopes she can do the same for her students.
This year Mrs. Headley is teaching a senior English class. She says teaching seniors is really what she loves the most. When she first started teaching, she wanted to teach seniors and felt it would be her best fit. She enjoys the material she teaches and helping the seniors with their future plans with scholarships, recommendations, and advice.
Mrs. Headley has two daughters, Caroline who is seven and Megan who is nine. She enjoys spending most of her time with her two daughters and her husband. She is also involved in several church activities. She loves music, although she is no longer able to sing because of serious throat problems she has had for several years.
Mrs. Headley is originally form Newnan and says it has grown tremendously. She and her husband graduated form Newnan High School in 1988, and now she is a teacher here. Both of her grandmothers and her parents also graduated from Newnan. Mrs. Headley feels she has strong ties to NHS, and she is proud to be a teacher in a school with such a long history of excellence in our community.
