Mrs. Laura French

This week the teacher deserving of the spotlight is Mrs. Laura French. Mrs. French teaches sophomore English. She has been teaching for eleven years. She teaches because she loves literature and wants to help people better understand what they read. She decided to become a teacher because she wanted a career in which she could make a difference. She taught at Western Hills High School in Kentucky and at Crestview High School in Florida.

Mrs. French worked for the Summer Residential Program for Duke Talent Identification Program. She really liked working with those students, and the experience inspired her to become a teacher, a career she had never considered until then.

Mrs. French is very good at trivia, which is a special talent not many people know she has.

Mrs. French likes to cook, and she really likes to cook any type of Indian recipe.

MRs. French loves the holidays because she gets to go back to Kentucky and spend time with her family. She only gets to see them during the holidays.

Being a literature teacher, Mrs. French loves reading. Her two favorite books are The Corrections by Jonathan Francen and The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

Mrs. French grew up in Kentucky watching Kentucky basketball and football. It is no surprise that her favorite college team is the Kentucky Wildcats. She does not have a favorite sport to play because she says she is terrible at sports. She loves basketball so much that during the NCAA Tournament in March, she turns it on in her class after she has finished teaching a lesson.

Mrs. French is a great teacher. Whether it is her greatness at trivia or her love of reading, she is deserving of the spotlight.
