Oldest Known Submerged Town

Neolithic pottery has revealed the world's oldest known submerged town. The finds were made on October 29, 2009 during an archaeological survey of Pauelopetri, off the southern Laconia Coast of Greece. The city was submerged by rising sea level.

The finding of this pottery shows that the town is over 5,000 years old. The project for finding the pottery is a multidisciplinary team, including Dr. Flemming who first discovered the sunken town, led by Mr. Elias Spandylis. They are from England.

The total town area is 100,000 square meters. The team has found old ruins measuring up to 100 by 100 meters.
