Mrs. Shirley Wold

This week the teacher deserving of the spotlight is Mrs. Shirley Wold. Mrs. wold has been teaching for twenty-one years, and this year is her fifth at NHS. Before she taught at NHS, she taught at Whitney High School in Southern California. She teaches Advanced Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Forensic Science. She teaches these courses because they are the subjects assigned to her.

Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Wold wa an assistant manager at a retail clothing store, and she worked as a residential property manager before becoming a teacher.

Mrs. Wold's favorite book is The Alchemist by Paolo Coehlo. It is about a young man's personal journey and the obstacles he has to overcome to find happiness.

Mrs. Wold's favorite quote is "Life's tough, but it's tougher if you're stupid." She likes it because it reminds her to always think through things before making a decision.

Mrs. Wold and her husband recently took a trip to Charleston, South Carolina.

Mrs. Wold's favorite classes in high school were Biology and Chemistry. She liked them because they were the hardest for her, and she enjoyed being challenged.

Recently Mrs. Wold and her husband adopted a baby girl, Gianna. Gianna was born on August 10, 2009. They now have four members of their family, Mrs. Wold, her husband, their daughter, and their golden retriever. She said having the newborn in the house has changed their life drastically. There is no sleeping in on weekends or being impulsive, Mrs. Wold said. She said their whole lives and everything they do is planned around Gianna's schedule and her needs, changes she truly treasures.

These are all reasons Mrs. Wold is deserving of the spotlight.
