Imagine Peace
Over forty years ago, artist Yoko Ono shared a dream with her husband, John Lennon. She wanted to create a giant beam of light that would rise out of a wishing well from which people all over the world could send wishes.
Unfortunately, Lennon didn't live to see his wife's dream come true, but Ono's vision has finally become a reality.
The Imagine Peace Tower was unveiled Tuesday, October 9th, on what would have been Lennon's 67th birthday. It is located on the coast of Iceland in a town called Reykjavik. It will be lit every year from October 9th to December 8th.
"The light is the light of wisdom, healing, and empowerment. Even in the moments of confusion, fear, and darkness of your souls, hold the light in your hearts, and you will know that you are not alone, that we are all together in seeing the light of peace," said Ono at the tower's introduction ceremony.
The words "Imagine Peace" are inscribed on the base of the tower in 24 languages. Capsules below the tower contain almost half a million wishes that Ono has collected over the years. To send a wish of your own or for more information, log on to www.imaginepeace.com.
