During the week of October 22 - 26, the NHS chapter of SADD celebrated National Red Ribbon Week. There were many activities planned to help support our commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and to create awareness of the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Posters and fliers were hung all around the school, and each core subject helped to promote SADD.. English had fun writing public service announcements to be used throughout the year. Science gave a 5-minute lesson about what drugs can do to the body. The Math department distributed pencils to students who were seen making good choices. The Social Studies department used red paper for some of their worksheets during the week. The cafeteria made red Jell-O for all lunches one day. We wrapped up the week by inviting all students, teachers, and staff to wear red on Friday, because everyone knows that "Cougars don't make destructive decisions!" At the football game on Friday, October 26, the cheerleaders threw out twizzlers with stickers that said, "Don't let drugs twist your mind." The celebration of National Red Ribbon Week was a very positive experience. As a result, students started talking about how to make, and how to help others make, responsible decisions.
