Jobs for Georgia Graduates

Jobs for Georgia Graduates (JGG) is a school-to-work transition program designed to provide high school students with pre-employment training, work skills, motivational activities, and job development. The funding source for JGG is provided through the Georgia Department of Labor. JGG provides a 12 month follow-up service to increase the graduation rate and encourage a successful transition from school to work, post-secondary education, and the military. The Senior Model services students in the 12th grade and the 5 year model services begin at the 9th grade level. A student participating in Jobs for Georgia Graduates from 9th grade through 12th grade would receive approximately 720 hours of curriculum/classroom contact.

JGG Major Goals:

·        Improve knowledge and employment skills of high school students.

·        Produce qualified graduates for the labor market, post-secondary education, and military.

·        Provide student training and counseling.

·        Provide employers access to a pool of motivated, job-ready employees.

·        Students gain personal and academic development through remediation and counseling.

 Newnan High School (Senior Model) JGG is up and running for 2007 - 2008. There are currently 40 student members. The officers for JGG are: Crystal Cardin, President; Amanda Hawkins, Secretary; Alissa Graham, Vice-president of Community Service; Shakeva Tiller, Vice-president of Leadership Development; Olivia Teagle, Vice-president of Career Preparation; Jennifer Rogers, Vice-president of Social Activities.

JGG participated in the Freedom Walk which encouraged Cowetans to support America's troops and leaders. The event took place Sunday, September 9, at 6:30 p.m. It started at City Park and ended at the steps of the courthouse. The following students participated: Jennifer Rogers, Lakita Barber, Phylicia Brantley, and Allyssa Godfrey.

JGG participated in the Habitat for Humanity in Grantville, Georgia, Saturday, September 22. Students contributed to framing a house for a family. The following students volunteered their time and talents to this community service activity: Monique Blanding, Keshia Mitchell, Allyssa Godfrey, Shakeva Tiller, Ashley Talesky, Jennifer Rogers, Jessica Hicks, and Jasmine Harris.

JGG participated in Renew Our Rivers, Saturday, September 29, at the public boat ramp area near Whitesburg, Georgia. JGG members picked up debris and beautified the area with flowers.

JGG will have their Installation and Initiation Ceremony, Friday, October 26 at 8:30 a.m. in the A.V. room. Dr. Steve Barker will be the Keynote speaker.

Jobs for Georgia Graduates will have their 1st Annual Canoe Trip on the Chattahoochee River, November 3, 2007 starting at the Georgia Power Plant Yates boat ramp and ending at the McIntosh Reserve in Whitesburg, Georgia.
