Announcements for the Week of 3-15-10

Seniors, there will be a HOPE and financial aid workshop on Tuesday, March 30 in the CEC Cafeteria.  The workshop will start at 6:00 p.m.

Students – Parking Permits - Gold forms are for seniors and blue forms are for underclassmen. Students who drive to Newnan High School must have a parking permit registered in their name, and the permit must be clearly displayed on the rearview mirror. Only seniors with gold permits are allowed to park in the gold lots. Citations will be issued for improper parking.  Reminder - Gold Lots must be cleared by 4:00 p.m.
Reminder – Students may NOT park in any numbered parking spots.

Newnan High School’s Prom - May 15, 20l0 – 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Location - OPERA in Atlanta, GA
Payment for prom during the months of March & April is $85.00.
Price goes up to $95.00 in May.  
Date Fee - $25.00
Pay dues to Mrs. Aaron (Rm.108), Mrs. Finger (Rm.711), or Mrs. Benton (705).
All fees are non-refundable, and payments will not be accepted at the door.
Seniors - If you paid as a junior, you do not have to pay as a senior. See Mrs. Aaron if you need to verify.
                                                       
CEC students arriving to NHS must report to the main cafeteria when they arrive on campus until class change.

Former AP Psychology students who wish to take the AP Psych test in May need to see Mrs. Whitlock ASAP.  Information about the test is posted outside her door.

Attention all ladies:
Newnan High will have a “Prom dress and accessories” sale on Friday, April 2nd in the cafeteria from 5 – 8 p.m.
The dresses and accessories will be either FREE or offered at a lower price than the stores.
If you have any dresses or accessories that you would like to donate or sale, please take them to Mrs. Aaron’s room (108). She will accept items until Wednesday, March 31.

Cheerleading tryouts for the upcoming 2010 – 2011 school year will be March 29 – April 2 from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. in the old gym.  There will be a MANDATORY parent meeting for all students wanting to tryout on March 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the main cafeteria.  You can pick up tryout packets in Ms. Clark’s classroom (Room 304).

There will be a Red Cross blood drive Tuesday, March 30, 20l0, in the old gym from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Please see Mrs. Vickers to sign-up to donate.

SGA 10th, 11th and 12th grade representatives, please see Mrs. Vickers to sign-up to work the blood drive and to sell spring sports t-shirts.

Chess Club will meet Thursday, March 18.

All Jobs for Georgia Graduates who are interested in attending the State Awards Luncheon at Paine College in Augusta, GA, Thursday, April 1st need to see Mr. Coker for a parental consent form and details for this activity trip.

Jobs for Georgia Graduates will meet Wednesday, March 17th in the AV Room at 8:00 a.m.  JGG will have another testing of the Georgia Work Ready Assessment at CEC this Wednesday after school in Room 407 at 4:00 p.m. Please see Mr. Coker to secure your appointment for this assessment.

The SGA reps will not meet for the next 2 weeks due to exams and junior testing.
The officers will not meet Tuesday (exam week), but they will meet the following Tuesday, March 23 in the media center.

Students for Latina/o Empowerment, a student advocacy organization at the University of Georgia, would like to invite NHS students to apply and participate in our annual ¡Sí Se Puede! Youth Leadership Conference on March 27, 2010. The one-day conference targets students who are interested in learning about higher education as well as community activism. Students who are interested can see Mrs. Lasiter in the guidance office or apply online at www.uga.edu/sle.

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia is hosting an open house at their Athens campus on Friday, April 2, 2010.  It is free and open to students interested in veterinary medicine as a career.

Drama III Class Showcase Production of Bambi: A Life in the Woods - Show times are Thursday through Saturday, March 18-20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Newnan High Auditorium.  Tickets are $7 and are available now in room 95 or from any cast member. 

There will be a FCA meeting Wednesday morning at 7:45 a.m. in the ninth grade media center. Please see Coach McDonald or Coach Hines for more information.

Attention Juniors: QuestBridge is a College Prep Scholarship program, which provides awards that equip outstanding low-income high school juniors with the knowledge necessary to compete for admission to leading colleges. Interested juniors may pick up application information in the guidance office.

Mr. Swanson’s AP students need to go by his room Tuesday or Wednesday to finalize class shirt information.

Math Team will practice Wednesday immediately after school in Coach Barnett’s room.  Remember to bring permission forms.

Volleyball off-season conditioning will start back the week after spring break.  Anyone interested in participating must have an updated physical on file!

There will be a Tri-M Music Honor Society meeting on Wednesday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m. in the chorus room. The induction ceremony will be rescheduled to a later date.

Spanish Club members - please bring in cookies for the Welcome House by this Friday morning and leave them in room 210.  If you have questions regarding this Community Service Project, please see Ms. Lotter.

Clayton State University is holding their Open House Saturday, March 20. There is no cost to attend. Students need to register to attend at Clayton State University’s website. The deadline to register is THIS Wednesday, March 17th!
